Not an Object

As a fellow marketing student who has taken a deep course into advertising, I can only say that the world of advertising while taking a giant leap into creativity, and quality also remains the same. This has been going on for a long, long time. It is not prevalent in only one country but all over the world. Perhaps you have noticed it, perhaps we have all noticed it: I definitely have. Be it commercials, music videos, product displays, movies, and TV shows, females are chosen to be a monument for attraction. Is it not true? Does a pretty woman make you look twice? Half the time, the product or whatever the company or the producers want you to pay attention to is not even relevant to displaying a girl. Countless automobile exhibitions have models standing beside the automobiles in skimpy outfits. Why ? The concept has spread across all sectors, sadly. Models are encouraged to wear revealing clothes on videos and photoshoots. Cheerleaders bring life to the game in many sports and e...

Carbonara The Authentic Way

Up until now, I had only known Carbonara the way it is popular around the world. A creamy white sauce that lathers the pasta which some mushrooms and some meat. It is delicious, nonetheless and I am drooling as I write this, to be honest. It was the only form of Carbonara I knew, the only form of Spaghetti Carbonara any of us knew, here. So, you can only imagine my surprise when I saw Jamie Oliver’s video on Youtube about how Carbonara is actually made. Here is how you make authentic carbonara What you will need Spaghetti 1 egg Salt Pepper Ham/bacon A handful of scallions/ parsley (optional) Grated cheese (parmesan, if you can find) Preparation Time: 10 mins Cooking Time: 15 mins Instructions: 1.      First things first defrost the meat. Either set it out on the counter at least half an hour before you make carbonara or defrost in the microwave. 2.      Set your water on the stove and add half a teaspoon of salt ...

Bara Si

An urban legend told time and again over the years, bara si has certainly managed to spook many. The urban legend is said to be inspired by true events, making it that much more scarier. The Origin of the Legend Bara Si is derived from two words: Bara and Si. The word comes from the concept of Bara or Surya Vivah in the Newa Tradition and ‘Si” means dead in Nepal bhasa. The urban legend of Bara Si refers to a girl who died during the process of Bara. The tradition of Bara is one that has been taking place since centuries in Nepal, even to this day. Girls from Newa culture are married three times in their life; one, to the bel fruit, two to the sun and the third time to their respective partner. The tradition of Bel Vivah and Surya Vivah was brought to protect the Newa girls from the Sati Pratha tradition, meaning that if they got married to the sun, they would never be a widow and would not have to be a sati. The Surya Vivah practice comes with its own set of rules and rituals th...

Can Love Happen Twice?

I have to be honest, the question popped up in my head when I recently read the book by Ravinder Singh. Long story short, the book is not so good, but the question is legit, isn’t it? We’ve long since heard the dialogue in Bollywood movies that you only fall in love once in life only for them to be hypocrites and to show a happy ending. But we still stand with the question: Can love happen twice? Well, according to the book: yes, love can happen twice. Love will hit you when you least expect it to, taking you in the most subtle way without you even realizing when you fell past all the hints. And to give up on love after getting your heartbroken, while seems like the thing to do, may not always work out that way. I’d like to believe that someone is always meant for someone and there is somebody out there for all of us. It’s written in the stars. If things did not work out for you the first time and you happen to find someone attractive again, this might be the person for you and the p...

What I look Forward to in 2022?

Happy New Year! 2021 has gone by in the blink of an eye, hasn’t it? 2020 seemed long, straining even. But not 2021, 2021 seems to have gone by in a jiff. Maybe because we were trying to do and fit everything in, all that we could not do in 2020. 2021 seemed like a hope over 2020; we had so much to look forward to a new vaccine, the end of Corona, and what not? Did it give us that? Vaccine: yes, the end of Corona: no. Even more, 2021 brought us a new variant: Omicron. At the start of 2021, I had high hopes, but what should I look forward to in 2022? The new year is a fresh start, of course. And for every new page, I have positive thoughts. I have learned that:        There is no use fretting over things you have no control over.        This is no one’s fault really.         Everything will happen in its own time And here is what I look forward to, and you should, too         ...

Crunchy Hot Dogs at MadMunch21

Are you a fan of Korean hotdogs? Hungry but do not want to spend much? Head on over the MadMunch21 for lunch. Introducing Korean corndogs in Nepal, this stick food is different from the average sausage sticks you get out on the streets. It's crunchy, it's yummy, it's different, and it's fulfilling. Korean street foods are just as popular as their Kpop bands, their movies, or their dramas. And to be honest, they are a bit ahead when it comes to street food with the food not only being unique and aesthetic but equally delicious to munch on. In many instances, they’ve taken the average food and brought it to a whole other level. You’ll find that pancakes are no new thing, a popular breakfast food even. But the Koreans take a step further making pancakes airy, light, and cake-like with cream and fresh fruit and various toppings. And same is with the corndogs which actually originated in the US. It was a different take on hotdogs with the hotdogs being coated in cornmeal...

When your Best Friend Becomes a Mother

It is a beautiful feeling, to go through the different stages of life with someone in parallel; going through the big changes, and seeing each other grow and become different people. This is, what I think is the most beautiful thing about friendship. How beautiful is it to see, the person you’ve grown with, become a mother? An episode of ‘How I Met your Mother’ points this out. In season 7, when a character of the series becomes a mother, Ted, the main protagonist says that it is something you will remember when your friend becomes a mom: the stupid things they did, the wild moments they had, and then you will realize that person is a mom, now. It’s a complete contrast, to be honest, one that you replay time and again in your head. So, when my bro called me up to meet for coffee and we were catching up, she had this sly, exciting look on her face as she revealed the big news to me. I was beyond happy for her as we held each other’s hands and look at each other in joy...
