As a fellow marketing student who has taken a deep course into advertising, I can only say that the world of advertising while taking a giant leap into creativity, and quality also remains the same.
This has been going on for
a long, long time. It is not prevalent in only one country but all over the
world. Perhaps you have noticed it, perhaps we have all noticed it: I definitely
have.
Be it commercials, music
videos, product displays, movies, and TV shows, females are chosen to be a monument
for attraction. Is it not true? Does a pretty woman make you look twice? Half the
time, the product or whatever the company or the producers want you to pay
attention to is not even relevant to displaying a girl.
- Countless automobile exhibitions have
models standing beside the automobiles in skimpy outfits. Why ? The concept has
spread across all sectors, sadly.
Models are encouraged to wear revealing clothes on videos and photoshoots.
- Cheerleaders bring life to the game in
many sports and events.
- Have you noticed how so many Bollywood songs have a ton of girls dancing in the background to a male actor double their age? Of course, you have. Again, why?
The generation of the
internet has only added fuel to this objectification. Videos with girls dressing
sexually tend to get more views. Is it that the female body is taken as an object
of sexualization to haul more audience? Does everyone take this as normal? The media
has the power to shape the minds of the young. How do you think this will
impact the new generations to come? How do you think the media portrays
women? On the one hand, women are being portrayed as businesswomen, strong,
independent, and free-spirited. And on the other hand, this age-old technique
continues. Can we say that the media portrayal of women has really progressed?
