Easy Crème Brulee

Crème Brulee is one of those desserts that look very sophisticated but are actually pretty simple if done right. I always used to think that I could never make one because I don’t have a blow torch but I’m glad to be proved wrong. Make simple crème brulee at home this quarantine period. You will need: 1 cup milk 1 tablespoon vanilla essence 1 egg yolk 2 cups sugar 1 teaspoon corn starch The preparation time can go anywhere from 5 – 10 minutes but you will need a good couple of hours for the custard to chill in the refrigerator. Instructions For the custard:  Start with pouring your milk in a pot over the stove on medium heat Pour in the ½ cup sugar or depending on your liking Pour in the vanilla essence Keep stirring the mixture Crack an egg and put the egg yolk in a bowl Put in the corn starch and whisk Now, pour in a little bit of the milk, sugar and vanilla essence mixture and whisk.  Then, add the egg mixture back into the pot. Keep whi...

Kintsugi

So I was going through my old Facebook posts one of these days, because let’s face it, quarantine boredom has hit us all one way or another. And I came across this post that I had shared in 2016. Kinstugi: it is a Japanese term for mending broken things with gold reminding you that flaws can be beautiful. The post as you can see above, urges to remember the same when we feel broken. Beautiful, right? I thought the same and shared at the said time. However, this time, I saw this post a little differently. This random thought came flying into my mind. And bear with me, because a lot of random thoughts do come in my mind: what if we could mend people the same way? What if all the cracks, all the broken parts of people were visible? What if you could see the hurt their hearts have been through; the dried stream of tears their eyes have cried; the crack from the pressure that their heads have taken? And what if you could fill all those cracks with gold like in kinstugi? Wh...

You can use an electric hand mixer if you have one. If you don’t have one, you can   use a hand whisker, and wel...

It's Complicated

“Hey, look at this!” I snorted to my new colleague. “What?” she leaned over to look at my desktop. “One of my friends just updated her relationship status as it’s complicated. What is that supposed to mean? Such an overused statement”, I rolled my eyes. “Misunderstood is the word you’re looking for”, she gave me a tight lipped smile. “What?” “It’s complicated”, she repeated “It’s not overused, it’s misunderstood.” “I really do not understand what you’re trying to say”. “Let me tell you a story” she straightenened up. “Ohhh” I squealed “Tell tell!” She took a dramatic pause. “8:30 pm” “You’re going to have to be clearer than that”, I scrunched my face. “Our story starts with a time…” 8:30 pm It was time for their daily online date. She opened up her laptop. He was online! Her heart skipped a beat! “Hey baby!” the familiar ting ting sound; the sound that she has loved all these years; the sound that made her feel so close despite ...

The Time I Tried Dalgona Coffee

Yes; I know it, you know it, and everybody knows it. The dalgona coffee is all we have been seeing literally everywhere on social media. What’s funny is that this is not a new thing, apparently. This trending coffee form has been around for years and years before it was used by South Korean actor Jung II Woo And then boom! Of course, it looks attractive and that was my first impression of it. Creamy coffee; well what do you know? I suppose another reason for its massive popularity is self-quarantine period and lockdown over the world. People are trying this ‘new thing’. So I thought, why be left out? Why not see for myself what this coffee tastes like. For my fellow friends who do not have an electric hand mixer or a frothing wand like me, hang in there! I used a whisk. It will take up a lot of your time! 25 mins did it for me. But the taste and the final outcome was worth it, I must say. It’s creamy, it’s refreshing, it’s fun, and it’s delicious! So, if you have some t...

To All Health Workers Around the World

This would seem like a measly attempt compared to what you are expected to put up with at the moment, but I’m going to try anyway; I’m going to try to show our gratitude for all that you do. You guys are real heroes working front line in such a crisis, such a situation. You have been working hard keeping aside your hunger, your tiredness. And how you must want to spend time with your own families during the lockdown! Despite this, you are battling. You are working overtime; you are keeping up with excessive hours of work and emergency situations because duty comes first. You are putting your own health and your own life at risk to serve others. That is huge! Have you been told how brave you are? You are so brave! Thank you! Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts! I honestly hope you stay strong and well through this and I hope the same for all of your families! May we get through this pandemic and emerge as stronger, healthier and happier p...

5 mins Chocolate Pudding

Here’s something simple and delicious you can make during this quarantine period. All it takes is a few ingredients, a microwave and 5 minutes of your time; yes, that is inclusive of preparation time! Grab a mug or cup that is microwave safe! You can use a ceramic one, a glass one, just do not use steel. Keep the following ingredients at bay: ·      Chocolate: during the quarantine period, use whatever you can find. I used dairy milk; 6 pieces would do. ·          ½ cup milk ·          ½ teaspoon corn flour/ corn starch ·          1 teaspoon vanilla essence ·          2 tablespoons water It doesn’t take much at all and it is simple as 1- 2- 3. Instructions: ·          In your mug/ cup, break down the pieces of chocolate and pour in your milk. · ...

The Soul vs The Spirit

You know how one day you’re just fiddling about, doing something else and this random thought hits your mind? Yeah, it happened to me too.  I’ve never given this context much thought, to be honest, but one day; boom my mind was curious as to what is the difference between a soul and a spirit. Are they the same thing? Are they different? If they are different; how are they different? Are they used interchangeably? Yeah, they are definitely changed interchangeably. You can see I can be quite of a curious cat, and you might also have figured out that I’ve spent quite some time on this. Let’s get one thing straight, both the soul and the spirit are referred to what is intangible, beyond our bodies and seeking good and feeling good. When it is something makes us feel healed, something makes us feel immaculate; we say that it has touched our soul. And when we want to connect to something that is greater than all we know, we seek something spiritual.  The soul and the spir...
