Most Common Dream

Recently I took a survey: What kind of dreams do you see the most? I must have sent the link to many and I got an overwhelming 201 responses! Thank you to all those who took a moment from their busy lives to fill it. I shall forever be grateful to you. This survey helped to shed light on the matter of dreams: maximum people from the survey chose that they see dreams of being chased and always trying to get away from something or someone.

I have always had this dream, it’s not the same dream: no, but it’s always the same kind. And more than twice a month perhaps. I am always running away from something. And apparently, I am not the only one to have such kind of dreams. Many people seem to dream of being chased. It is the most common dream. A whooping 22.4% have chosen so. And it seems the age group (18 – 24) and the age group (25-32) seem to see such dreams more on average. However, it would be unfair, of course, to be biased based on merely on one survey that I conducted. No, it is not on basis of only this survey but I’ve read on many sites that being chased is the most common dream.

Do you know what it means to have such dreams? I was oblivious to dreams having meaning. In fact, I thought that they were mere stories that my brain was making up while it was active but my body was not. But the big shocker came when I read somewhere that every face we see in our dreams, even the one terrorizing us is some face we have seen somewhere, perhaps even a face we have only passed by for 1 mere second. Because, while our brain is capable of doing many many things, many imaginative things I might add; it does not appear to be capable enough of making up a new face.

Here is why I’m bringing up this fun fact: I may not recognize the face I am running from in my dream, but my brain sure as hell randomly picked that face from some sighting I might have forgotten. And it’s not always a person I’m running from either. Sometimes it’s an awful person, sometimes it’s a creature, and sometimes I don’t even know but I just know that I have to run to save myself. Feels familiar? And here’s the meaning behind the most common dream: you’re trying to avoid some problem or situation in real life. Maybe this might “run” well with you, maybe it might not. See what I did there?

While running is the most common dream, it is not the only one. Flying is also another common dream, or losing your teeth (that was a real scary one; had that once), or falling, or being naked in public or death and dying. Nevertheless, dreams are your brain’s way of communicating with you in the most subtle way!
