I have a Question regarding Honesty

I was recently listening to “Aashish” by Bipul Chhetri when these lines caught my attention: “ जगतलाई उज्यालो पार्ने तिम्रो हसाई हृदयमा छापिने साँचो तिम्रो हेराई” These lines, as they intended, made me stop and think about the innocence of a child and the honest way they look at you. Children are the most honest beings out there, don’t you think? If they like you, they make it so obvious. They straight up tell you if they don’t. They tell you if something doesn’t look good and they tell you as a matter of fact, what they think about something. Of course, there’s that naughtiness in them, but children are born honest. We all are. So where is all the honesty lost when we grow up? We try to be honest, I’ll give it that, but we lose our honesty somewhere, don’t we? I can see three reasons for this being so: 1.       We’re trying not to hurt the other’s person’s feelings 2.       We are trying to get something out of the situation 3.       We

The Day I met my Best Friend's Girlfriend

How should I describe my best friend to you? The idiot that he is, he is also the sweetest, most genuine and most caring friend I’ve ever come across. He wears these goofy thick framed glasses: the kind that make you look like a nerd. But on him, they seemed pretentious. For anyone who does not know him up close, he’d come off as a creep. I swear! He just remembers that new watch you’re wearing, because it’s different from the one you wore when you last met him, or he’d remember a new clothing, or you get the idea. I don’t know whether to call him observant or borderline creepy. He’s the kind of person who makes me want to whack him on the head but also pull him into an embrace, at the same time. He is a weird fellow but after 15 years of knowing him, his weirdness has grown on me and I just cannot do without him! Can you picture him? No? Well, I tried anyway. If you could picture him, you’d understand why I found meeting his girlfriend strange. Not that his girlfr

The No Make-up Theory

I don’t know why I didn’t see this earlier. But better late than never, right? As someone who has been questioned upon her femininity because of lack of makeup skills, this seriously strikes a chord! Okay, wait, let us take a step back, since when did makeup go from something done only to enhance your beauty to something that is “required in the 21 st century”? And how is not putting on makeup being a “disrespect”? I get it, it’s a beauty pageant after all: calm down! Or get over it, you might say. But in a world where there are enough issues and insecurities when it comes to womanhood, this is the least I would expect. Since when has putting on glasses become not beautiful? Why is the absence of makeup the first thing she gets asked about instead of what she likes to do or what she is like a person? Why were all other judges’ okay with what was happening? Perhaps we are focusing too much on this event itself; maybe the term, the question came up because they want

Do Not Waste Food

When I was little, I had this routine of leaving out food on my plate, be it only a spoonful or two; I just could not finish it. That, of course, earned me a good speech from my mother: “What sort of habit is that? You never finish your food”, she would say. Perhaps it were these consistent speeches that has made me feel conscious about leaving out food, which is a good thing. But this is very true, you know? We rarely think about all the time, all the effort that goes into making what we have on our plate, and we seldom appreciate it. Perhaps we do when our stomachs are roaring for it, but not after that. “But that’s exactly food is for!” you might be rolling your eyes at me. “We eat because we’re hungry, and when we’re not hungry anymore, why eat? “ Right? You’re right; I’ve got nothing to say against that. But take only as much as you’re hungry. If you have even the faintest doubt that you cannot consume more than that, do not take more than that. The sa
