The No Make-up Theory

I don’t know why I didn’t see this earlier. But better late than never, right? As someone who has been questioned upon her femininity because of lack of makeup skills, this seriously strikes a chord!

Okay, wait, let us take a step back, since when did makeup go from something done only to enhance your beauty to something that is “required in the 21st century”? And how is not putting on makeup being a “disrespect”? I get it, it’s a beauty pageant after all: calm down! Or get over it, you might say. But in a world where there are enough issues and insecurities when it comes to womanhood, this is the least I would expect. Since when has putting on glasses become not beautiful? Why is the absence of makeup the first thing she gets asked about instead of what she likes to do or what she is like a person? Why were all other judges’ okay with what was happening?

Perhaps we are focusing too much on this event itself; maybe the term, the question came up because they wanted to test her confidence and the way she’d tackle the question: okay, alright. Let’s keep this event aside then. This still does not ignore the fact or the no make-up theory, does it? Perhaps this situation has triggered that question; that issue that we all know has been there. It’s been around for ages. The question: why don’t you wear some make-up; how can you not know how to do make-up? Well, you know what? I don’t. I cannot tell one type of makeup brush from another. And I bet there are thousands of girls out there like me. It does not make us any less feminine or not from the “21st century”. Period.
