The Pet Diaries

We have had dogs for as long as I can remember. There was Jhuma, Ili, Rexy, Milo, Blacky, Haku and so many more.  Some died, some were sent to live with relatives and one was just sent away. I have memories of all of them. I remember their naughtiness, their innocence, their stubbornness, their laziness; all of it.  Every time one of them was detached from the family, I would cry my eyes out. And who would not? Pets are more than just pets, they are our family. When we bring a pet home, we are bringing in more than just cuddles and cuteness and furriness. We are bringing in a responsibility of another life; the responsibility to feed, clean and look after them; the responsibility to make them and keep them a part of our lives.

Are you able to hold on to that responsibility? Are you able to look after your pet? Are you able to devote money, space and most importantly time for your pet? If you do not, please do not get a pet in the first place. We see many animals that are abandoned after their cute baby stage. Many dogs loiter around on the streets having been abused, abandoned or just lost their way: all this because we could live up to our responsibility and I learnt this the hard way.

Own up your responsibility and take care of your pets. Pets are great. They can be your protector and your companion. They are these little furry balls of happiness. A pet’s love is one of the most selfless and genuine love we could receive. For us, they are only a part of our lives. But for them: we are their whole life. Please make their life worth it.
