I have always thought
that theatre actors have it harder than film actors: they perform in front of a
live audience, there are no retakes, and they need to know every line because this
is their one shot. All the more reason to appreciate their efforts and hard work.
Back in school, I watched a play: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory performed by Rato Bangla Students in St. Xaviers School, Jawalakhel. While it was a good performance, I have always wanted to watch an act by professional theatre actors.
Things took a different
turn when I met my new colleague Aakash Jha, who is passionate about theatre
acting and has had a handful of experience in this field. I was able to find
out about theatres showing such acts. We got tickets to watch “Chor ko Swar”: a
play about a Limbu wedding and the aftermatch and peace and harmony. The story
itself was very simple, but the characters brought the story to life. I was in
awe of how these brilliant actors could remember all these lenthy lines, their
sudden outburst of emotions, the skill with which they changed from scene to
scene. It was beautiful to see how they lost themselves in their character.
Theatre acts are vivid and must be experienced. This raw acting that you see on stage will take you far away.
