Snack Bars: Your Ultimate Hiking Companion

If you’ve ever tried a snack bar or a granola bar or a protein bar of any kind, you know they’re handy, fulfilling and delicious. Well, good news, now you can get snacks bars made with natural sugar and right here in Nepal.

They’re great here when you’re running late or have a tight schedule. Just grab one on the go and munch on them and go about your schedule. They’re great when you’re cramming for your exams and need to pull an all-nighter. They’re great when you’re travelling and they’re great when you’re so hungry you could eat just about anything. Long story short; you can have them any time. Let’s be honest here; do we really need an excuse to have a snack bar? I know I don’t.

I noticed while I love me some granola bars and protein bars, there are very less options in the market for that and all of them are imported. Recently, I happened to come across an ad on Instagram. It read Made in Nepal Snack Bars. I could not be more excited. Having gone through their page, I saw that they’re made at home, as if Snack Bars are not healthy enough already, organic and handmade. Snack On comes in 3 varieties: Coco Berry Therapy which had dark chocolate, Trekkers’ Paradise and Peanut Berry Therapy. They sounded heavenly. I couldn’t help but place an order; especially since my cousins and I were planning on a short hike the very next weekend. This would be perfect!

If anything, the Snack on Bars made our hiking experience even better. Packed with richness and goodness and natural sugar, it doesn’t compromise on taste, either. I had ordered the Coco Berry Therapy for all of us. Chunks of dark chocolate on the bars made each bite even more scrumptious. We were energized for the long walk ahead.

The next time you plan a hiking trip with your family or friends, make sure you order one of these. You won’t need to carry much food. And it will elevate the whole hiking experience.

Rajamati

I think we’ve all heard the song of Rajamati growing up. It is so popular that many people in Nepal claim this is the only Newari song that they have heard. The song was written some 200 years back. The first few lines go like this, which I’m sure you must have heard of, unless you’ve been living under a rock: Rājamati kumati, jike wasā pirati Hāya bābā Rājamati-chā Rājamati mabila dhāsā Kāshi wane tela bubā Hayā biu Rājamati-chā. San dhāsā kuli kuli, mikhā dhāsā bālā bālā Sakumi yā mhyāy machā lā Khwā dhāsā tuyu khwā, khwālay niga tee du Tāhā Nani yā Rājamati-chā. It is said to be written by or rather from the perspective of a man who was infatuated and in awe of the beauty of Rajamati. He describes with great admiration: her hair, her eyes, her complexion and the little moles on her face. However it is unknown who the writer of this beautiful song is. The song rushed into popularity after it was played in England in 1850 when Prime Minister Jung Bahadur Rana vi...

Best Places for Breakfast in Kathmandu

The only reason I love sleep, more than the reason that, well, it’s sleep, is that it’s like time travelling to breakfast.  Yeah, no kidding. Breakfast, the most important meal of the day. Whoever named that meal breakfast, was straightforward. I don’t know who named lunch and dinner, but the breakfast guy? He cut in straight to the point, didn’t he? Because breakfast is literally breaking your 8-10 hours fast. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper, they say. So, you don’t really want to compromise on breakfast now, do you? Now, this is no backlashing, but in many restaurants around town, the most breakfast things they have on the menu are omelet and toast. Yeah, I was disappointed too. There’s this restaurant in Mangal Bazar, where my best friend and I met up early morning. We decided to have breakfast. The restaurant overlooks the courtyard so it’s a beautiful place to talk over a cup of coffee or tea. She and I ordered a cheese ...
