I bet everyone knows about the Starry night painting by Vincent Van Gogh. Not only is it one of the most famous paintings in the world, but it is also an exquisite piece of art to look at. It has rightfully earned its place as one of the most famous paintings in the world.
Before this, I was unbeknownst that there is also a song after the famous artist. The song is by Don McLean and it was produced somewhere around the 70’s. The song is called Vincent originally but also goes by the name starry starry night. Don McLean has done wonderful job with the song. It is soothing, it is thoughtful and it gives you a beautiful message of what Vincent Van Gogh might have wanted to hear or what he might have been going through.
These are the lines that touched me the most:
But I could’ve told you Vincent
This world was never meant for
One as beautiful as you
I first heard the song when Sushant Singh Rajput’s sister shared a video about him on her Instagram account. This song was dedicated to him and it made sense. Of course, I had to look the song up. For someone who was interested in stars and space and astrophysics, this song made absolute sense to be dedicated to such a brilliant man. Not only this, they say a few days before his demise, Sushant had changed his cover photo on his Facebook profile to that of Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh. It caused chaos among people because Vincent Van Gogh made the majestic painting few days before he committed suicide. So it made sense to people because Sushant’s death has also then, been deemed as a suicide. But this made me wonder…
It made me wonder.. not about the cause of the death, it’s still being looked upon but the death itself. Why is it that when someone has passed away, people suddenly appreciate his works? It happened to Vincent Van Gogh and it happened to Sushant and perhaps many others. Van Gogh could solemnly sell his paintings for good money and spent his life in poverty and misery while he made many of his imaginations take life on canvas. And after his death, his paintings are some of the most appreciated and most expensive in the world. If only he had that justice done to him when he were alive and not compelled to take his own life. Sushant is being appreciated so much more after his demise. The same people who used to call him a wannabe and pretentious are praising him for the originality of his skills. If only he could have that kind of love when he were still here.
So why not appreciate everyone while they still are? You never know if it could make someone’s day or be that last string of hope or ray of sunshine that they are trying to find. Time and tide wait for none; as cliché as this saying is, it makes a lot of sense. Time gone never comes back no matter how much you regret or want it.
