The Modern Cinderella





Who here has not heard the Cinderella story? We all grew up listening to it. Remember the harsh life? The ill treatment? The mean step family? The ball? The fairy godmother? The prince? The glass shoe? The happy ending? Of course you do; who am I kidding? We all remember it!

Of course we remember the story that made us believe in magic and destiny; in finding one another despite all the hardships and obstacles. I mean, the prince did find her through her shoe in the entire kingdom, did he not? But it is just a story after all; and a classic, I will give it that. But can you imagine how Cinderella, the character, would be like if it were written today: the modern Cinderella?

The modern Cinderella would be a fighter. She would not be set by any boundaries. The modern Cinderella would have her freedom but she would not be irresponsible with her freedom. She dreams and she achieves. The modern Cinderella is clad by the beauty of knowledge and wisdom. She would know that before she relies on anybody to make her life more beautiful, ‘she’ needs to make her own life beautiful. The modern Cinderella would know that before she devotes her life to a prince charming, she needs to love herself first. She is a big dreamer, in this small world. The modern Cinderella does not wait for someone to come and create miracles for her; she goes out and makes her own miracles.

Rajamati

I think we’ve all heard the song of Rajamati growing up. It is so popular that many people in Nepal claim this is the only Newari song that they have heard. The song was written some 200 years back. Best Places for Breakfast in Kathmandu

The only reason I love sleep, more than the reason that, well, it’s sleep, is that it’s like time travelling to breakfast.  Yeah, no kidding. Breakfast, the most important meal of the day. The Oldest Kumari

Dhana Kumari Bajracharya resides amidst the hustle and bustle in Gabahal, Patan. She is a 70 year old woman, who you would think is much younger at age, if you look at her.
