How
would you describe a better person? Someone who is more kind than you? Someone
who is more successful than you? Someone who achieves more marks in class than
you? Someone who is more honest than you? Someone who works harder than you?
What if I told you that all these things are both true and false when it comes
to being a better person?
Raise
your hand if you have made the mistake of comparing yourself with another
person. Maybe it is your classmate at college, maybe it is your colleague at
work, or maybe it is your neighbor; we have all been there. We assume being
better is to compare: the good and the better. We strive to become better than
the next person. Yes, there should be comparison, but not with another person;
with yourself. Compare the person you were yesterday and the person you are
today. Realize the mistakes you made yesterday, and take a step to not repeat
them today. Focus on being a better version of yourself: try being kinder, more
successful, achieving more, being more honest and working harder than
yesterday.
Of
course this is nothing new and unheard of. Yet, we fail to implement it in
everyday life. Remember; take a step to be a better person.
