“I
love food and I love eating”: there I said it! Some people eat to live and some
people live to eat. I am affirmative I belong to the latter group. I am sure
many of you can agree with me. I think about food more than I can be proud of. And
of you course, if you are like me, you too would like to hunt down new places
to eat every now and then.
It
has not been that long since the trend of eating out started in the valley. The
number of restaurants has drastically increased in the past 10 years. I read
once, that even if you visit one restaurant every day in New York, it would take
you 51 years to eat at every restaurant in the city. I cannot say that the
Kathmandu Valley will not soon come to the same state. Besides foreign chains
like KFC, Pizza Hut, Keventers Milkshake and others coming to town, there are a
lot of local restaurants and Nepali restaurants that have risen on their own.
This is of course, is great news for a foodie like me.
I
cannot tell how many times I have dragged my friends to new places that I
wanted to try; some days the places would impress us and some days we would
return disappointed. It frustrates me how unbelievably expensive restaurants
around Kathmandu have gotten, and usually with very less quantity of food for
the price that they charge. You tell me you would not be mad if you rushed to a
restaurant, your stomach growling with anger only to find that the plate of pasta
that you ordered is barely 4 forks full AND charges Rs 500 +. I assume no one
would be too happy about that. This being said, it is good to see that the
restaurants in Kathmandu have upped their standard of level in such a way. There
are people who prefer quantity and people who prefer quality. Of course you do
not have to go too far to find delish food with a limited budget and at times
it does not hurt to let a little loose your hold on that cash. You would be
surprised when you can find the tastiest of dishes at the least expected
places.
